Czech-BioImaging: 10 Years of Bringing Cutting-Edge Technologies to Czech Science and Industry

18. 3. 2025 Press Releases

The Czech National Research Infrastructure, Czech-BioImaging, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. It provides access to state-of-the-art imaging technologies that push the boundaries of scientific knowledge and contribute to advancements in medicine, biotechnology, and ecology.

Over the past decade, users of Czech-BioImaging have benefited from top-tier technologies for biological and medical imaging, resulting in numerous publications in the world’s most prestigious scientific journals as well as new technical innovations in electron microscopy in collaboration with the private sector.

Czech-BioImaging brings together 16 leading imaging centers across the Czech Republic and collaborates with 10 partner institutions. Every year, more than 1,300 researchers utilize its services, supported by a team of approximately 120 experts.

“Thanks to our data, researchers publish over 200 scientific papers annually,” says Pavel Hozák from the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, Director of Czech-BioImaging. “We offer a broad range of imaging methods and provide access to more than 200 specialized instruments, which are also available to international users through the European infrastructure Euro-BioImaging ERIC.”

Science Open to All

One of the key principles of Czech-BioImaging is open access, allowing not only academic institutions but also industrial partners to take advantage of cutting-edge technologies. “Our methods enable detailed analysis of biological processes at the cellular, tissue, and whole-organism levels, contributing to the development of advanced diagnostic tools for medicine and biotechnology,” adds Pavel Hozák.

The Future of Biological Imaging

To mark the 10th anniversary, a special expert meeting will take place on March 18, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Czech Academy of Sciences in Prague. The event will bring together key representatives from Czech-BioImaging, Euro-BioImaging, and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports of the Czech Republic to discuss the sustainability of large research infrastructures.
